Friends in high places? Below is a message of support for the Tour from the British High Commissioner to Barbados. On behalf of the players and the Tour Party, thank you to Mr Brummell for taking time out of his schedule to offer such a personal message. Needless to say, he will be very welcome at any of the games should he be able to get along!
“I was delighted to hear of the forthcoming Lancashire Under 13 Cricket Tour to Barbados. I know that the members of the tour have worked very hard, with their families, to raise the necessary funding. The reward will be a tour to an island whose contribution to cricket has consistently been out of all proportion to its size, contributing to the game such legendary names as Wesley, Weekes and Walcott, Sobers, Hall, Greenidge, Haynes, Marshall and Garner. Barbados has over the years welcomed many school teams from England, offering both great fun and great cricket. A number of the young participants on these tours have gone on to distinguished professional cricketing careers, at county and test level. I’m sure that the Lancashire Under 13s will be no exception. And even for those who are destined to follow other career paths, I am sure that the experiences awaiting them in Barbados will be both rewarding and unforgettable. I wish the team a successful and enjoyable tour, and one that not only helps the players develop as cricketers but to build new friendships in the Caribbean and a better understanding of the beautiful island of Barbados."
With best wishes,
Paul
